6 Tips To Consider When Choosing Your Photoshoot Outfit

So, you’ve finally booked a photography session! It’s exciting but choosing the right outfit can also be unnerving. At Fotograf HQ, we have a team on hand to ensure you look and feel your best on the day. We’ve put together 6 helpful tips to help you pick the perfect outfit.

1. Come as yourself

We understand you want to look your best for your photos, but that doesn’t mean you should go overboard!

Your photos are a representation of your personality. Time and time again we see people purchasing a special new outfit that isn’t something they would normally wear, and it can often mean they’re not comfortable. If the outfit is over the top, it may also distract the viewer.

We believe your photos should highlight and feature your natural beauty. Essentially, we want to capture you being your natural self.

2. Consider a colour Scheme

Co-ordinating colours is an essential part of your photoshoot and luckily, our stylists can assist you throughout the process.

When exploring your colour choices, there are a few things to consider:

  • Where will the artwork sit within your home?
  • Do you have a colour scheme within your home? If so, what colours will complement this?
  • If you’re taking family or couple photos, what will the others be wearing?
  • Keep in mind that strong colours are often timely and can date. In our experience, natural and earthy tones like greys, browns, greens, and autumn colours are complimentary
  • Avoid patterns and intricate prints they often don’t show up in photos the way they do in person and if others are wearing prints or patterns, they may clash

3. Explore texture

While a lot of people tend to focus on colour, texture is often overlooked and can add vibrancy to your photos.

Think of linen, knitwear, denim or leather. If you’re having an individual shoot, silk can be a sensual texture to include.

4. It’s all about options

We’re all about options! It’s easy to become overwhelmed when you’re trying to choose an outfit which is why we’re on hand to help.

If you’re having a family or couples shoot, we suggest you bring 2-3 options. If you’re having an individual shoot, you can bring 3-4 options.

Your photographer is also your stylist. They have the skills and experience to understand what will complement you the best on camera.

5. Avoid branding

It’s not uncommon for clothing to feature branding or text. These features will detract from you being the focus of the image. We recommend you wear neutral clothing with no branding.

6. Accessorise

We’re big fans of accessories and props. Hats, scarves, jewellery and elements that highlight your hobbies and interest can add value and personality to your photographs.

Bring along a few options to play with on the day.

We hope these tips have helped you to select a few clothing choices, remember, we’re here to help and if you have any questions before the day, simply get in touch.
